Lago d’Iseo

Lago d’Iseo, have you been there🤩? This small lake between Como and Garda is just as beutiful but less polished, and very easy to reach by train. Perfect as an extra stop, or a day trip from the nearby cities of Bergamo and Brescia.

🛥️We chose to get off in Iseo, and immediately hopped on a boat across the lake to the island of Monte Isola. If you enjoy hiking, bring good shoes and make your way up to the monastery at the top. E-bikes and mopeds are available to rent if you prefer. From the boat, you pass the charming villas with private parking spaces for both boats and cars, along shorelines dotted with tiny villages.

🥂Then it was time to try the region’s sparkling Franciacorta wines. A little more expensive than prosecco, which is grown just around the corner, but far tastier. Right now, they’re highly sought after in wine bars all over the world.

🧀 The best place for an aperitivo is usually what’s called a salumeria or formaggeria, offering excellent cured meats and cheeses paired with well-selected wines. We started our evening at the excellent @questionedigustoiseo

🌅 Then go on with dinner by the water at sunset. And if passing another restaurant —packed with cheerful families—do sit down and have some dessert there. Along with another variety of Franciacorta, being happy to linger a while longer. Don’t miss @mier.iseo

💦The next day—of course—a morning swim! Just a small patch of grass for a spiaghetta, with mountains all around and the water warm, it was pure bliss!

🍅 After breakfast at the Ambra Hotel Iseo, we had an early train to catch. Otherwise, we would have gladly stayed longer to explore the Tuesday market, which had just unpacked everything from adorable tomatoes to vacuum cleaners, hats and jams in all shapes and colors. Next time!

🚂 After lunch in Verona we arrived in Innsbruck. And almost caught the @belmond Simplon Express to Paris! One day… So far, the @unsereoebb mini cabins are a good enough choice too.
